We can do so much more to get people in South Cambs cycling. It's green, it's healthy, it's cheap. But people are put off by dangers of cycling on rural roads and the distances. This can be solved by more safe cycleways and by helping people to buy e-bikes through loans.
South Cambs already has a high rate of cycling compared with the rest of the county. But there is a huge demand from residents for action to enable even more people to cycle. Cycling on narrow rural roads isn't attractive. Major roads are hard to cross, especially for children. Distances of 10 or 15 miles are daunting. Two measures could transform all this: more safe cycle routes between villages and into Cambridge, along with support to buy e-bikes that allow many more people to cycle much further.
